How Does F.I.S.H. Work?
F.I.S.H. provides and delivers food to people and families in need, without the bureaucratic hassle and red tape hat can frustrate a hungry family and delay their receiving public assistance.
F.I.S.H. also receives referrals from social service agencies, other charities and churches.
Where does the food come from?
Churches, service organizations, individuals and businesses make donations of food and money.
What is F.I.S.H.?
F.I.S.H. is Fellowship in Serving Humanity.
It began in the early 1960's in England as a means of reviving the old-fashioned concern for one's neighbor.
Today there are over 1,000 F.I.S.H. groups around the world. The Anchorage group began in 1967.
Facts
- During 2007 F.I.S.H. delivered food to 13,165 people
- Which brought a 3-day supply of food for:
- 7,018 Adults
- 6,147 Children
- This was enough food for: 118,485 meals
- With the help of more than 70 volunteers and no paid staff
Volunteers
In Anchorage, F.I.S.H. volunteers provide and deliver food for families in need.
F.I.S.H. operates entirely through donations and volunteers.
At the present time 70 volunteers shop, repackage, pack bags of food and deliver the bags to people in need.
